The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.
About the Role
The Graphics department at The New York Times seeks to hire an experienced and versatile senior visual editor to manage and execute the presentation of our graphics journalism in formats beyond nytimes.com , including social media, email newsletters and the print newspaper. This is a high-impact role designed for a senior journalist who wants to pioneer best practices and drive our off-platform visual storytelling.
You will guide the adaptation of complex graphics for audiences on social media, including Instagram, Facebook, X and other emerging surfaces. You will be responsible for coordinating strategy with the Social Visuals team and for assigning, editing and in some cases crafting graphics to meet that strategy, and help to do the same for Times newsletters, including The Morning and On Politics. And you will work with the Print Hub to coordinate production and edit graphics for the Times print edition.
You possess impeccable news judgment and have extensive experience creating and editing a wide range of types of information graphics. You operate with autonomy to proactively identify new opportunities to extend the reach of our journalism.

- Produce and edit news graphics under tight deadlines during breaking news environments.
- Guide and edit the work of other visual journalists who translate interactives, spatial models and breaking news graphics into these formats.
- Expertly and independently carry out all aspects of visual production, serving as the primary leader of all off-platform displays.
- Work with the Social Visuals and Audience teams to direct the packaging of graphics journalism off-platform.
- Maintain strong relationships and coordinate across other multidisciplinary desks (Graphics, Design, Video and the Print Hub) to track projects and establish publishing workflows.
- Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
- You will report to a deputy graphics editor.
